Why I Love Laser Therapy (and How It Saved My “Gangly Wrist”)

Hello all, Shania here!

I’ve always believed that the human body is incredibly clever — it has this amazing ability to heal itself when it’s given the right kind of support. Over the years, I’ve explored all sorts of techniques to help people recover faster, move more freely, and live without pain.

But one treatment that’s truly impressed me — and helped me personally — is our laser therapy.

How It All Started

A little while ago, I developed what I jokingly called my “gangly wrist.” The medical term is a ganglionic cyst — a small, fluid-filled lump that can make simple things like gripping, typing, or demonstrating techniques uncomfortable (which, as you can imagine, isn’t great when you’re an osteopath!).

I tried all the usual tricks: gentle mobilisations, taping, rest (as much as I could manage), and even a few painkillers. But with how much I use my hands, the discomfort always came creeping back.

Then one day it hit me —

“Why am I not treating myself the same way I treat my patients?”

So, I reached for the laser.

The Turning Point

And honestly? It made such a difference.

After just a few sessions the dull ache began to fade. The swelling eased, movement felt smoother, and for the first time in months, my wrist felt completely normal again — strong, comfortable, and ready for work.

That was when I realised just how powerful this treatment can be.

What Laser Therapy Actually Does

Laser therapy uses gentle, targeted light energy to reach deep into the tissues, encouraging cellular repair. It improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and speeds up healing — all without any invasive procedures or downtime.

It’s an elegant, pain-free option that often works when other treatments plateau. It can even reach areas that hands-on therapy can’t easily access, like deep discs between vertebrae.

Why It’s Become a Go-To in My Practice

Since my own success story, I’ve been using laser therapy more and more with my patients — and the results are consistently fantastic. It’s particularly effective for:

  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Arthritic joints
  • Sprains and strains
  • Persistent inflammation
  • Nerve irritation
  • Disc and low back ligament injuries
  • Those stubborn, lingering pains that just won’t shift

Most patients love how gentle and relaxing it is. You might not feel much during the session, but often you’ll notice later that the pain has simply melted away.

For me, it’s the perfect complement to osteopathy. My hands can release, stretch, and rebalance tissues, while the laser supports healing at a deeper, cellular level. It’s a brilliant combination of science and natural recovery.

Why I Keep Coming Back to It

Every time I use the laser — on a patient or myself — I’m reminded of that wrist and how quickly things turned around. It’s become one of my favourite tools in the clinic because it does exactly what I love most about osteopathy: it helps people move better, feel better, and get back to living their lives.

So yes — I’m a big fan of laser therapy (if you couldn’t tell)…and that’s not just because I’ve seen it work, but because I’ve felt it work!

We also offer one off laser trials as a complimentary 15 minute in extedned to your session if you want to see what if feels like.
