Meadowside Osteopathy provide advanced Shockwave Therapy with the EMS Swiss DolorClast, which is widely recognised as the gold standard in extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT). This state-of-the-art technology is proven to help patients recover from chronic, long-standing injuries, even when other treatments have failed.
We are thrilled to announce the addition of Shockwave Therapy to our range of treatments.
This innovative technology is transforming how we approach conditions such as:
Shockwave works by stimulating deep, chronically inflamed tissues to stimulate healing, which may not always be pleasant. But the DolorClast has a unique setting, designed to mask and reduce pain in the area before the main treatment set starts. This means we can deliver the full treatment needed for optimal results, without it being too uncomfortable.
This leads to better outcomes, quicker recovery, and a much more positive experience for you.
Shockwave Therapy works by delivering radial sound waves to the site of injury. These low-energy acoustic waves reach deeply through the layers to focus energy directly on the affected tendon, muscle or ligament.
The treatment stimulates blood flow, promotes the healing process, and reduces pain, and can also break down stubborn calcifications if these are present within the tendon or fascia.
During therapy, a hand-held device directs focused sound waves to the treatment area, and ultrasound gel is used to ensure the waves reach the tissues effectively.
The energy delivered and the number of waves applied will depend on your injury and tolerance. Your osteopath will tailor the treatment protocol to your needs, frequently checking in to optimise your comfort and results.
Your initial 45-minute consultation involves:
If Shockwave Therapy is appropriate, treatment may begin during this session or in subsequent visits.

Most patients experience improvements within 4-6 weekly sessions, though results can vary.
Some patients notice immediate relief, while others may see benefits after a few weeks. The effects are cumulative, meaning each session builds on the progress of the last.
The SWISS DOLORCLAST device delivers acoustic waves into the affected area, creating controlled microtrauma that:
Treatment is cumulative, meaning each session builds on the last. Most patients need 3-6 sessions, typically once a week. Chronic conditions may require more sessions.
Shockwave therapy is well-tolerated, but temporary side effects may include:
Many patients notice improvements after 1-3 sessions, but results vary. The effects build over time, and following your clinicianâs advice (e.g., exercises or lifestyle changes) will enhance your recovery.

Helpful and accessible, got me back on my feet after a short course of therapyPosted on Lara MorrisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My first experience with an osteopath, and I was so impressed by Shaniaâs approach and level of care. I came in for wrist pain that had been getting progressively worse over a few weeks, to the point where I was almost in tears. She was able to get to the source of the pain, and after just one session, the pain had completely cleared within a few days. Couldnât recommend her more!Posted on Hannah DawsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Couldnât recommend Meadowside and its team enough. I have visited them for a number of reasons over the last 4 years (headaches during pregnancy, treatment for my 3 month old baby and back issues) and each time they have delivered an excellent service.Posted on Francesca NichollsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Emily has been fantastic in making me as comfortable as possible in the latter stages of a twin pregnancy. Would recommend to anyone as an essential treatment!Posted on Patrick WellsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My experience with Meadowside has been great! Shania has been helping me as I have had prolonged issues with my sinus. She has really helped with this and also located problems with my neck. Altea has also been really welcoming. I would definitely recommend :)Posted on Hetty CannonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Just took my 14 year old son, who is struggling with a rugby injury, to see Ashley. We were both SO impressed. Hugely knowledgable, so easy to talk to and clear in his thoughts and explanations and most of all gave my son an incredible treatment. He is already feeling so much better. Honestly Iâve seen many professionals for various injuries for myself and my family over the years and he was one of the best. I highly recommend him.
